Both facts and counterfactuals can be modeled as real numbers. The state of every structure in the world corresponds to some real number…counterfactuals are their complements. There is no “shortage” of real numbers. A real number is a row in an infinite truth table the final column of which chooses between fact and counterfactual… there are only two possible outcomes for every such “state variable” at a moment in time local to the object. The real world determines what is and what is not. For every tick of the universal clock (…101010101010…) a determination is made.

“Continuous” and “states” are contradictory descriptions of structure…except given an additional parameter/variable/operator that “picks” a unique state from a continuous spectrum. “Superposition” however, completely destroys that sense of “continuity” by implying a separate dimension or “setting apart” of the individual states. That “linearity” implies a kind of stasis… the opposite of “continuous” as in “continuing, on-going”…something is changing.
Implicit in all of this is the model of the real numbers as a “complete” space…the points of the real number line/plane/etc. not “moving”… that there exists some fixed matrix against which we can contrast the changing “functional” values. Completely messed up….there is no such “thing”….the only absolute is “there are no absolutes”. All boundaries have “holes”. Time is real.
The right model is that conceived of by Huygens back in the 17th century: every point of the wave front is the source of wavelets whose “spreading out” serves as the source of the wave front. The sharing of information involves both a time lag over distance and differences in clock domains. In both cases sharing may be delayed…information may be lost due to a “spreading out” of the medium in which it is encoded. The world is a landscape of sinks and sources. Entropy will increase over time yet there may be a local decrease in entropy when information is shared.
